Arts in the Air—Art From the Heart Arts Center & Winthrop Rockefeller

Institute of the University of Arkansas announce the third annual “Arts in the Air” student art contest. Teachers are encouraged have their students begin preparing now for their participation. Entry packets are available for down- load at www.uawri.org or by calling 501-727-6239

The contest is open to Arkansas students K-12th. This year’s theme is “Art from the Heart”. Students are challenged to look inward and create an image that comes straight from their hearts. Artwork from students in Pope, Yell, Johnson, Cleburne, Faulkner, Conway, and Van Buren counties is to be delivered to ARV Arts Center, 1001 East B Street, Russellville between Feb. 7-14 Submissions must be made through a teacher or an instructor of an art program. Each student can only submit one entry, and each school/program is limited to 10 entries per division: Grades K-2, 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12.In April local contest winners will exhibit in a statewide “Arts in the Air” show and be invited to a special winners workshop and awards ceremony. Approx. $1,000.00 in cash prizes will be awarded at the state contest. For more information on the local contest call Betty LaGrone at 479-968-2452

Gourmet Hog Dogs!

Picnic style tables and chairs and bales of hay around a roaring campfire. Feaste on Hot Dogs with every imaginable condiment, beer, wine and F-U-N. $30.00 per person. Sponsored by: Robert Ford, Dennis Overman and Mary Clark.

 

Dinner and Private Tour at Arkansas Arts Center

The trip includes a stop in Conway for dinner at the home of Mary and Lu Hardin. Then on to Little Rock for a special private after hours tour of the Arkansas Arts Center’s exhibit, “Hot Color - Cool Glass,” followed by dessert and after dinner drinks. $50.00 per person. Sponsored by: Arkansas Arts Center, Mary and Lu Hardin.

 

Retro Party in the Pavilion

In the State Park on beautiful Mt. Nebo. Choose your dress from your favorite decade $30.00 per person. Sponsored by: Julie and Andy McNeill, Patty and Todd Mathes, Mary Clark, Robert Ford, and Dennis Overman

Bump and Jump (for Children)

Bump and Jump until you can’t jump anymore then fill up on pizza, drinks and cupcakes! $25.00 per child. Sponsored by: A-Whole-Lotta-Fun, Patti Cakes, Pizza Pro, Lil’ Ceaser’s and the Brick Oven Pizza

 

Little Miss Arkansas Tea

Board a chauffeured limo for a truly magical tea party with Katie Bailey Miss Arkansas 2007. Each young lady will have a group picture and their special moment and an individual picture with Miss Arkansas, crafts and a tea party complete this exclusive party at the home of Lynn and Poncho Knight. $50.00 per person. Winter Classes

Adult Pottery Classes: Instructor Winston Taylor Hand building and wheel throwing for beginners and experiencedDay class will be on Wednesdays from 11am-2 pm. For 10 weeks beginning Jan. 9th

Evening class will be on Mondays from 6-9 pm. For 10 weeks beginning January 7th

Cost $115 for Arts Center members, $135 for non members includes all supplies

 

Children's Pottery Classes: Instructor Winston Taylor

Basic Pottery Techniques for elementary ages with an introduction to the potters wheel

Class will be on Tuesdays from 4-5:30 pm for 8 weeks, beginning Jan. 8thCost is $50 for Arts Center members, $60 for non members - includes all supplies

Drawing for 5th-7th Grade: Instructor Winston Taylor

Basic drawing for beginners or more experienced

Class will be on Thursdays from 4-5:30 pm for 8 weeks beginning January 10th

Cost is $50 for Arts Center members, $60 for non members

 

Oil Painting: Instructor Darlene McNeely

Old Buildings and BarnsClass will be on Tuesdays from 6-9 pm for 6 weeks, beginning January 15th

Cost is $60 for members, $65 for non members. Pick up a supply list

 

Acrylic Painting: Instructor Bonnie Peyton

Beginning acrylic media for beginners and advanced

Class will be on Mondays from 6-9 pm for 6 weeks beginning January 14th

Cost is $60 for members, $65 for non members. Pick up a supply & book list
