Exhibitions and Meet the Artist Receptions

A new exhibition opens each month in the gallery with a public reception which is a great time to enjoy exceptional works of art, an opportunity to meet the exhibitiing artist, hear a short, informative gallery talk, ask questions, mingle with other artists and art patrons and enjoy refreshments. Introduce younger children to artists and a cultural experience that can form a lifelong love for the arts.

Gallery Exhibit Opening Receptions are held at the Arts Center, 1001 East B Street, Russellville on the first Sunday of each month from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.  When a holiday falls on the first week-end, the reception is usually changed to the second Sunday.

During this time you can join your children for a Sunday Funday where supplies and instructor are provided for them to make crafts.  Viewing the exhibits, refreshments and Funday are free of charge and open to the public.

A new exhibition at two other venues offer monthly rotating exhibitions: Pope County Library and Lake Dardanelle State Park Visitor Center.  Local art is also on exhibit at Russellville Regional Airport and Russellville Country Club.

Annual shows in the gallery include CenturyLINK's Collegiate Exhibition and Competition open to any college student in the state, a statewide High School Exhibition and Competition, also sponsored by CenturyLINK, and Local Artist Invitational. Other exhibits are from area students, local, state and nationally renowned artists.

To be considered as an exhibitor in the Arts Center's Gallery, submit good quality photographs of          2-or 3-d works or an actual piece of art along with your biography to the Visual Arts Committee.  This Committee reviews and schedules exhibits several months in advance.  There is also the opportunity to exhibit in the Arts Center's classroom gallery or lobby.  These additional exhibits usually draw as large a viewing audience as the Gallery so each exhibit enhances the other.

Local residents will be thrilled with the exhibition of both paintings and sculputres by Virginia Berner and pottery by Artist-in-Residence Winston Taylor and his students.

Virginia has been creating art for several years and has just finished her new studio, Wishbone Studio.  Winston is well-known and respected as a potter and instructor.  His eagerly sought after works are in corporate and private collections throughout Arkansas as well as in other states and countries.  He now has students who have come into their own and are creating beautiful works of art.

The exciting exhibit for this month is a seldom seen exhibition of the works of Ginnie Tyson and her family.  Ginnie calls the exhibition "The Art of Family Traditions."  Ginnie is very creatively talented.  She recently retired as an instructor at Arkansas Tech University. She and her husband Van are owners of Dover Times and the Atkins Chronicle which has been owned by the family for many years.  Ginnie (and Van) are both accomplished vocalists and sing with Festival Chorale.

Angela Teeter is a Clarksville resident.  Her artist statement: "Each artist I have personally known, observed, and worked with have individully played a golden role in the development of my work over the past few years.  When you work with and observe someone else's style long enough, you begin to pick up their techniques the same way people gradually pick up an accent when they live in a certain region long enough.

Personally, I tend to work best around themes.  I go through different phases of interest inspired by people, music, media, history, fashion eras, culture, and just about anything else put in front of me.  The majority of my work is created under the influence of music on slow days at work or late at night, so a lot of the time my choice of music will mold and shape my work as it progresses."
